WALKER COUNTY, Georgia - Sunday, October 18,2009 - 1:30 am - Walker County
Fire units were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire at 3
Fisher Road. Initial reports said there was possibly someone still inside
the structure. Within minutes, Walker County Engine 7 arrived on the scene
and reported a two story structure fully involved, they also reported two
exposures involved an out building and a vehicle. Firefighters quickly
pulled two inch and 3/4 hose lines and started a primary attach.
Crews attempted a blitz attach to make a
quick knock down and gain entry into the structure in an effort to conduct a
primary search, unfortunately the fire was to hot and had a big advantage on
the firefighters. Crews had to back off an work the blaze from a defensive
position. Several additional fire crews and equipment began arriving on the
scene in short order and the additional crews joined in the battle. A
positive water supply was also established by those arriving companies.
The fire was originally reported by a
neighbor that was dropping someone off across the street from the fire. They
immediately called 9-1-1 an reported the house was on fire. Neighbors also
stated that there were several people that lived in the house including
teenagers and children. The man of the house was believed to have been at
work when the fire broke out, however the rest of the family was unaccounted
for at the time of the fire.
After about 45minutes, crews were able to
get enough of a knockdown to conduct a search of the structure. After two
searches of the remains, firefighters were unable to locate anyone. The
cause of the fire has not yet been determined, however the home was
considered a total loss.
