BRADLEY COUNTY, Tenn - Wednesday, October 7, 2009 - 3:15 p.m. - Emergency personnel responded to a single-car crash on I-75 at the 28 mile marker in Bradley County. A 56-year-old man was the driver and the only occupant of a Buick passenger car that left the roadway and slammed into a tree. First responders were amazed to discover the man was not killed or at least seriously injured. They say he was wearing his seatbelt and the car's airbags deployed saving his life. In fact, the driver was not even transported to the hospital. The driver told paramedics he fell asleep while driving on the interstate. Stan Clark of the Bradley County EMS said, "This is a prime example of how seat belts and airbags save lives." The Bradley County Sheriff's Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash. Cleveland Fire Department firefighters were also on the scene in case needed.
