Sunday, April 1, 2007 ---- Emergency response agencies across southeast
Tennessee participated in a large-scale Homeland Security exercise Saturday
starting in the morning and continuing throughout the day.
The exercise involved three mock incidents, two in Bradley County and one in
Hamilton County.
The mock incident Hamilton County occurred on a site at Enterprise South
involving a simulated collapsed building.
The Chattanooga Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team
responded to the scene and rescued several "victims" from the rubble.
Although the exercise was not real, it was hard, tedious and dangerous work
for rescuers.
Firefighters used a lot of specialized rescue equipment including high-tech
cameras used to search through collapsed structures.
A mock school shooting with numerous "casualties" was staged in Bradley
County.
