North Dade Firefighter Work A Fully Involved Car Fire

DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Sunday, September 7,2009 - 8:30 pm - North Dade County Fire Department was alerted of a car fire on Slygo Road near The KOA Campground. Within minutes, a Dade County unit reported the car was fully involved. Shortly after, the first North Dade Fire unit arrived on the scene, Battalion 41, and set up command. Chief Chris Lowrance was in that Battalion vehicle and quickly advised North Dade Engine 4 to approach from the south end of Slygo Road for quicker access to the fire.

Seconds latter, Engine 4 arrived on the scene and firefighters quickly pulled an inch and 3/4 hose line from the engine. Meanwhile, due to the involvement of the fire, additional firefighters quickly pulled a line to a nearby fire hydrant to ensure enough water to put out the fire and protect nearby property.

The large flames were just no match for the aggressive attack led by Captain John Pangle. The primary attack crew quickly moved in and dowsed the blaze. Leaving in its wake nothing but stream and charred metal the firefighters had the flames completely gone in seconds. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The owner of the vehicle was uninjured in the incident, luckily he spotted the fire and quickly stopped his car and got out. Traffic on Slygo Road was shut down for about 45 minutes while crews worked the scene.
