DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Wednesday, September 9,2009 - 5:30 pm - North Dade
County Fire Department and Life Guard EMS units were dispatched to an
accident on Interstate 24 Eastbound, just west of the 59 split. Within
minutes the first unit was on the scene and reported a pickup truck had been
struck in the passenger side by a semi tractor trailer. That unit also
reported one man still in the pickup truck with a head injury.
Seconds later, North Dade Rescue 4 and
Trenton Rescue 1 arrived on the scene with a Life Guard Ambulance. Crews
quickly started packaging and loading the man on a back board. In short
order the man was loaded into the ambulance and rushed to Erlanger Medical
Center in Chattanooga. The mans condition was serous but not believed to be
life threatening.
A witness at the scene said the pickup
truck was traveling in the same direction as the semi truck when it started
to spin out of control on the wet highway. The driver of the semi said he
tried to avoid the spinning pickup, but when it came back across the
roadway, right into his path, the driver said he couldn't go anywhere.
Georgia State Patrol Officers are investigating.
