DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Sunday, September 7,2009 - 10:10 am - Davis and
Trenton Firefighters were alerted of a structure fire in the 800 block of
Porter Road, just off of Highway 301 North. Within minutes, Davis Engine 7
was responding to the call. In short order they arrived on the scene and
reported light smoke showing from a single wide mobile home. That crew also
reported everyone was out of the structure. Firefighters quickly pulled an
inch and 3/4 hose line and started a primary attack through the front door.
Within seconds, that crew used a thermal
imaging camera to identify the location of the fire. The primary attack crew
quickly withdrew from the front door after locating the fire in the rear
part of the trailer. With precision the crew made their way rapidly to the
back of the trailer and entered through a back door nearly on top of the
small smoldering fire. In just a minute or two the fire was out. However,
firefighters still did not want to chance any extension. Firefighters began
checking the rest of the structure to be sure.
Meanwhile additional fire crews were
arriving from Davis and Trenton and they quickly began assisting and setting
up ventilation fans to clear the structure of smoke. Luckily it didn't take
long with the thermal imaging camera to identify there were no more fires
inside.
The family was at home when the fire
started, however they did make it out without injury. The cause of the fire
is still under investigation by fire officials. There is no current estimate
of damages.
