DADE COUNTY, Georgia - Wednesday, September 2,2009 - 2:00 am - North Dade
Fire Department and medics with Life Guard EMS Were alerted of an accident
involving an overturned semi truck on Highway 11 at Morganville Ridge Road.
Life Guard medics arrived on the scene in minutes and quickly checked the
driver of the truck for injuries. The driver did sustain some minor injuries
and was transported to the hospital.
Dade County Sheriffs Officers had to redirect
traffic and close Highway 11 due to the crash, however at that time of the
morning there really was very few vehicles traveling the highway. Officers
did have the fire department continue responding to the scene for safety and
also to address a fuel leak. In short order, North Dade Engine 4 arrived on
the scene under command of Captain John Pangle.
Firefighters were able to quickly stop the
leak that appeared to be coming from a crossover line between the fuel
tanks. Meanwhile, a wrecker crew was arriving on the scene to start clearing
up the wreckage and up right the tractor trailer. A crew from the trucking
company also arrived on the scene and immediately went to work. The crew
from the trucking company cut the straps that held the chicken cages on the
truck so the wrecker company would have no problem up righting the semi.
Within a short time the empty tractor
trailer was back on it's wheels and being hooked to a wrecker for tow away.
The chicken cages and load was another story, it remained laying in the
road. It took workers with the trucking company several hours to clean up
the road and carry the cages and debris way. Georgia State Patrol is
investigating the cause of the crash.
