WALKER COUNTY, Georgia - Saturday, September 25,2010 - 7:00 pm - Walker
County Stations 2 and 7 were alerted of a structure fire on Glentana Road,
just off of Wilson Road. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported a duplex on fire.
Within minutes, Walker County Engine 7 arrived on the scene and reported
heavy involvement to the second floor of a residential structure. Several
additional companies were alerted for assistance including stations 5, 6 and
Squad 1.Engine Seven's crew
immediately pulled two lines off their engine, a 2-1/2 inch master stream
line and an inch and 3/4 line. The crew quickly used the master stream to
blitz the the blaze. Then the firefighters quickly switched to the inch and
3/4 line to make a rushed primary attack. Within a very short amount of
time, several additional companies were arriving on scene. The additional
fire crews joined the attack with the 2-1/2 inch master stream, making a
direct attack Through the front door.
When the first company arrived on scene it
appeared as if the fire was in a raging state of destruction, however within
minutes it was obvious that the firefighters were making no room for second
best. The Walker County Fire Crews caught a knock down on the fire so fast
it was like turning off a light switch, flames one minute, smoke an embers
the next. The aggressive attack saved three other homes that were very close
to this one.
Unfortunately, even with the fast knock
down on the blaze, the home was still a total loss. The fire was such a fast
mover that it consumed everything in the home in a matter of seconds.
Luckily nobody was at home at the time of the fire, witnesses said the
resident was away at the time. Fire investigators are trying to determine
what caused the blaze.
