Chattanooga Police Officer Injured In An Off Duty Crash

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn - Saturday, October 13,2007 - 5:30 pm - Emergency crews with Hamilton County EMS and Firefighters with City of Chattanooga Squad 4 rushed to the scene of a crash on Alton Park Blvd at the intersection of 37th Street. Before rescuers arrived on the scene, they were informed that a City Of Chattanooga Police Officer was involved.

Numerous City Of Chattanooga Police Officers also responded after being informed that the officer was injured. Crews quickly arrived on the scene and reported a two vehicle crash. The female police officer and two passengers in the police car, one of which was a youth, were all injured and immediately packaged for transport. All three were loaded into Hamilton County ambulances and rushed to Erlanger Medical Center.

Witnesses said the mini van was at the stop sign on 37th Street at Alton Park. When the van started to pull onto Alton Park Blvd. it collided with the passengers side of the police car that was traveling south on Alton Park Blvd. Another witness at the scene said the police car was traveling rather fast for the area, however this has not been confirmed.

The mini van had several children riding in it. All of the children were wearing seat belts and were uninjured in the crash. The police officer was said to have been off duty when the crash occurred. City of Chattanooga Police Department Traffic Officers were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.
