BRUTAL  EARLY MORNING CRASH IN WHITFIELD COUNTY GEORGIA TAKES A LIFE

Sunday, July 24,2005 - 3:30 am - City of Dalton and Whitfield County Fire and Rescue units were dispatched to an accident on I-75 Southbound near the 338 Mile Marker. Whitfield County Sheriffs Officers were also dispatched to the crash and arrived on the scene first. Sheriffs Officers quickly reported several vehicles involved and also that one of the patients had been fatally injured.

When fire and rescue personnel arrived on the scene the immediately started extricating several other patients from a black Nissan Pathfinder that had flipped several times and landed in the woods off the right side shoulder of the highway. There was a total of four men in the Pathfinder that were all transported to Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, two of them were in critical condition.

Two men in another car were also transported to Hamilton Medical Center with non life threatening injuries. Those two men were also traveling southbound when they were said to have been struck in the rear by the Pathfinder. Their Chevy Caprice then struck the guard rail in the median head on before coming to rest on the inside shoulder of the interstate.

One man who was another passenger in the Nissan Pathfinder was said to have been ejected from that vehicle while it was flipping. His body was then struck by another vehicle, and then even another, one of which was believed to be a semi tractor trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by a Whitfield County Coroner.

Georgia Highway Patrol Officers say there were several contributing factors in the crash, one of which was speed another possible factor may have been alcohol. Georgia Highway Patrol is investigating the exact chain of events leading up to the fatal wreck. The name of the fatally injured man is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
